Verizon’s September 10 iPhone 18 release described two different paths for customers. Switchers on Simplicity Pro could get an iPhone 18 Pro without a trade-in and hand it back in good working condition each year for the next model. On myPlan, the company advertised up to $1,200 off a new iPhone when adding a line with an eligible trade-in, or up to $1,020 for an existing-line upgrade with trade-in. Verizon said the trade-in phone must be from Apple, Google, Motorola or Samsung and have been active on an account for at least 60 days. Credits are spread across a 36-month payment plan.
For a US buyer deciding what to do with an older phone, those ceilings can be compared with a cash resale quote. The timing matters: a promotional bill credit over three years is different from cash received up front. A buyer considering a refurbished replacement should compare the total device and service cost for each route, including the plan required for a carrier offer. That is a practical inference from the release, not a conclusion about which purchase is cheaper.
The page does not give trade-in values for each model and does not say what Verizon does with phones returned under the annual upgrade route. It calls some offers limited-time without giving an end date. Confirm a live quote and all offer conditions before handing over a device.
